Long Duration M6.8 Solar Flare + Energetic CME (1/29/2024)

Long Duration M6.8 Solar Flare + Energetic CME (1/29/2024)

A long duration solar flare measuring M6.8 was detected around AR 3559 peaking at 04:36 UTC (1/29/2024). First look imagery by STEREO Ahead confirms that an energetic CME is associated. Because the active region is approaching the west limb, the CME should be directed mostly away from Earth. A watch for a minor (S1) radiation storm is already in effect. More details regarding a possible Earth directed component later via SolarHam.com
